SSimpleCom Tools To
Participate at REMOTE Monitoring Control & Automation/Onsite Power 2005 ensorLogic Releases
the First Open Source Protocol for M2M Applications
SensorLogic releases the M2MXML protocol introduced into the public domain
Remote Monitoring, Control
& Automation and Onsite Power will be held October 6-7, 2005 at the Peabody
Orlando Hotel in Orlando, FL. This is the fourth year for these unique
conferences that bring together the technology innovators and users from multiple industries,
including utilities, power, oil & gas, telecom, industrial, water &
public utilities, agriculture and facilities management.
SimpleComTools provides
software tools and hardware appliances that access and distribute remote asset
logic across the
M2M, Security, and Telematics value chains. SimpleComTools products are
designed for network integrators and application service providers who need
real-world solutions for machine-to-machine communications, telemetry and
remote data collection, wireless
connectivity, access control, and asset management.
"With the help of
technology leaders such as SimpleComTools, Remote Monitoring, Control &
Automation and Onsite Power 2005 is turning out to be fantastic event for the
remote and onsite power market,"
said conference chairman John Cargile. "Our attendees and exhibitors alike
are excited about the possibilities these events will offer, which include
great networking opportunities and the chance to build lasting business
relationships with numerous
contacts in multiple markets."

###DALLAS – March 23, 2005 – SensorLogic, the industry’s
first machine-to-machine (M2M) application service provider, announces that it has published the M2MXML
protocol and put it
in the public domain at www.m2mxml.org. The new first open source protocol for M2M applications,
M2MXML combines a common Web
protocol, XML, and a set of functional standards used for remote monitoring and control of devices
with limited processing capability. By adopting this open standard, device
manufacturers and application developers can increase the speed and ease of
implementing M2M solutions. Standards also improve the interoperability of complex systems across varied
transports, devices and applications.
“Creating a standard that
was feature rich while being wireless network friendly was critical to
accelerating adoption of telemetry applications,” said SensorLogic
President and CEO Dr.
Jeff Smith. “However,
we realized that using it ourselves was not sufficient, it had to be in the
public domain in order to have the greatest effect. We are proud to be able to
contribute to the industry in this way.”
Placing the protocol in
the public domain allows provides anyone individuals interested in telemetry
applications with a royalty-free interface without that saves them from having to develop a custom
protocol themselves. Several device manufacturers have already embraced M2MXML already, which is a very important step towards creating support behind
an industry-wide standard.
“The M2MXML standard
provides the data communications protocols that have been needed in the
industry,”, stated AVIDWireless CEO Rod Montrose, AVIDWireless CEO. “Integrating the standard into our
AVIDirector products provides our customers the ability to create their M2M
applications in hours –
rather than weeks or
months.”
Because the M2MXML
protocol
was designed so that developers with TCP/IP and XML experience would find it very familiar, SimpleComTools just recently begun offering a version of their COM1000Ô Industrial Internet
Appliance with support for M2MXML.
“Supporting M2M XML in our
family of Industrial Internet Appliances was a natural for us,” said Bill Farley, Vice President of Sales & Marketing for SimpleComTools. “As our name implies, we
are all about making remote monitoring and control applications simple for
system integrators to deploy. The M2MXML protocol does just that.”
Iintegrating the M2MXML protocol into new or existing
embedded systems is very a straightforward process. Developers with experience with
TCP/IP and XML will find this all very familiar. SimpleComTools is
an example of a company that already has begun
offering a version of its COM1000Ô Industrial Internet Appliance with support for
M2MXML.
“M2MXML was a higher level
protocol that was easy to understand, powerful enough to handle our
requirements, but compact enough to fit into our embedded device,” said Bill Crum, SimpleComTools Chief Systems Architect and VP of
Engineering Bill Crum for SimpleComTools. “The completeness of the
protocol and the development assistance from SensorLogic engineering staff made
the integration a very pleasant experience.”
While XML is a standard
protocol, it can
cause significant overhead which is potentially costly for wireless
applications.
“Creating a standard that
was feature rich while being wireless network friendly was critical to
accelerating adoption of telemetry applications,” said Dr. Jeff Smith, SensorLogic President
and CEO. “However we realized that
using it ourselves was not sufficient, it had to be in the public domain in
order to have the greatest effect. We are proud to be able to contribute to the
industry in this way.”
Anyone interested in M2MXML can download a copy of the
protocol, get updates and participate in a forum on www.m2mxml.org,, a site hosted by
SourceForge.net, a widely used repository for open source software.
SensorLogic makes it easy for companies to develop
what normally would be very complex machine-to-machine (M2M) applications.
Based in Dallas, Texas, SensorLogic provides an integrated M2M solution that
bundles all necessary components and device management capabilities with the most effective wireless data
communications service. SensorLogic is the first provider that doesn’t force
developers to spend huge amounts of capital or require lengthy development time
to deploy private-label commercial-grade M2M services. More information on the company can be
found at http://www.sensorlogic.com/.
